THEATRE // Serious comedy "If Hamlet were..."
A NEW Mental Health Series performance COMES TO TARTUS! Mental health is no joke, it has to be taken very seriously. Equally, you have to take jokes and laughter seriously - it's no joke with you! Meet the creative team of actors Toomas Tross and Haide Männamäe, the clown duo PIIP JA TUUT, singer MARTA LOTTA KUKK and writer INDREK KOFF.In our production, we will analyse mental health and its related ills using theatre, music and spoken word. We look at characters from the literary classics who have struggled with mental health issues. We will try to get to the bottom of their possible diagnosis and prescribe a cure - the sick must be cured!
If Hamlet had been referred to grief therapy, or if Andres the Shadowhunter had been prescribed anti-depressants, would their lives have been beautiful in every way?
Would Calvary have been more balanced and even a little smarter if he'd had a real name?
How and with what to cure Moomvi, who wrote heartbreaking letters to himself and cried and cried but read them? If all these characters had kept a diary, exercised and eaten healthy food three times a day, perhaps they would have been free of their repressed anxieties? But wouldn't that have left us without the classics we know so well? Wouldn't our own mental health be at risk? After the performance, Steven Hristo Evestus will reflect on what he has seen with a mental health specialist, the troupe and the audience.
