EXHIBITION // POP-UP exhibition "4 views"

Tallinn Bearty is a subculture festival of bears familiar from LGBTQ families. Over the 10 years of our annual festival we have brought many artists from different countries to Estonia. We are honoured to bring the work of 4 artists to Tartu 2024, the year of the cultural capital.

Christian Trippe (London) - Two Hearts.

Specially commissioned for Tallinn Bearty, this exhibition is an impressive set of portrait photographs that invites the viewer to look very closely into the eyes of the portrayed quasi-humans. From bold and defiant expressions to vulnerable and introspective gazes, these portraits provide a glimpse into the multi-faceted experiences of the LGBTQ+ community. The exhibition is not only about the visibility of identities, but confronts viewers with gender, sexuality and the experiences of women and men.

Ciro Marra (Barcelona) - Linea Erotica 2.0

Ciro Marra is a post-pop, neo-expressionist painter who lives and works in Barcelona. Born in Italy, he moved to Valencia, Spain, in 2014, where he developed a new artistic language through the fusion of Spanish and Italian cultures. Linea Erotica is a series of erotic drawings, all the originals of which are in the hands of a single art collector, and reproductions of which are only available in the publication introducing the original exhibition and in the Tallinn Bearty show.

Alexander Prestia (Los Angeles) - Keep Painting / Painting Edasi

Keep Painting is a series of paintings created especially for Tallinn Bearty. It tells the story of the experiences of LGBTQ+ people, on a journey of self-discovery in a rainbow world. It's as much about creating community as it is about finding it.

Glenn Quigley (Belfast) - Portraits for Moth and The Moon.

Glenn is a writer and artist, originally from Dublin, now living in Northern Ireland with his partner. His imaginative LGBTQ themed novels and stories have found a place in the hearts of many. In Tartu, you can see portraits for the novel Nightingale and the Moon - a romantic historical fantasy about a lonely, big-hearted fisherman, Robin Shipp. One night in his hometown, a lively harbour town, while surviving a devastating storm with the locals, he is confronted with more than a storm. It changes everyone's lives.
