EXHIBITION // Kristina Viin "General History of Religions"

The exhibition will be open until 2 November 2024.The paintings on display were completed during the period when the artist was closely involved with his studies at the Faculty of Theology of the University of Tartu and was active in the Estonian Academic Oriental Society. Therefore, the title of the exhibition is perfectly suited to the title "General History of Religion", borrowed from Professor Tarmo Kulmar's legendary dictionary - a book that is an indispensable guide for students of the Faculty of Religion. The paintings are inspired by religious motifs, human quests and life's journey. While not all the works may be directly about religion, the artist has listened to lectures on religion as a backdrop to the paintings. Kristina Viin is an Estonian painter, illustrator and poet. She graduated from the Tartu Higher Art School with a degree in sculpture and from the Faculty of Religious Studies with a bachelor's degree, where she is currently pursuing a master's degree. Viin is the author of the poetry collections "Nikkkel elephandisammul" (2014), "Isepüüdleja" (2018) and "Unetamisi" (2024). Her poems have appeared in the magazines Looming, Vikerkaar, Müürileht and Värske Rõhk and in several collections. In addition, Viin has written art reviews and articles. She has illustrated poetry collections, children's books and publications and participated in exhibitions in Estonia and Finland. He has created the stage design for the Tartu Student Theatre's production "Daniil Harms or the Life of a Genius".
