EXHIBITION // Kairo “LINNANAIVISTI MAJAMUUSEUM”

Cairo had the idea of opening a beehive museum for a long time. "As this year marks my 15th year of painting, I thought I'd bring the idea to life, even if it meant using crutches and putting myself in a hammock," Cairo said. The exhibition will feature recent paintings created for the street art festival and works that will fly home from America. In addition, the public will be able to see a stolen painting that a party group took from the exhibition 12 years ago and hid in someone's front cupboard. Luckily, the work was recovered just before the opening of the 'house museum'. "Above all the clutter, the deputy of that mysterious front cabinet holds up the sky, and I have allowed myself the usual creative liberties in writing it," Cairo added. "Cairo (b. 1986) is an artist from Tartu whose artistic career began in 2009. His works are familiar to the general public from the electrical cabinets and walls of houses in the Supilstadt.

In 2019 he presented his first solo exhibition at Tartu Art House, during which he completed a monumental painting on site. As an artist, he prefers to use the term naïve to describe himself, because the word "self-taught" doesn't get people excited enough. Kairo's work is characterised by a richness of colour and a richness of detail, applied to a cart of communication. Where the light comes from, the artist says, is often irrelevant. Light comes from everywhere. Cairo has been a member of the Tartu Artists' Association since 2018.The exhibition "The House Museum of the Urban Dwarf" will remain open until 31 August 2024

The HAKI gallery, located in Tartu's Aparaaditehas, is open Mon-Fri 12-18 and Sat 12-16.
