EXHIBITION // “Florilegio” Valentina Monari

On Thursday, September 26 at 6pm we will open TYPA residency artist Valentina Monari’s exhibition “Florilegio” in TYPA gallery.

The exhibition explores the connections between humans and the plant world

What sets us apart from plants, and what can we learn from them? These questions guide Valentina Monari’s artistic research, which uses plants as mirrors to reflect our frenetic and often insensitive nature.
Over the past two months, the artist has slowed down her production pace, inspired by the slow process of plant growth and adaptation. This has resulted in the creation of a magical, at times dark and unsettling, atmosphere that celebrates local biodiversity and the surprising allure of nature

The project originates from the discovery of a 1965 book listing plant species at risk of extinction in Estonia. This prompted the artist to use eco-friendly materials and processes, such as recycled cardboard and organic colors, to convey a message of sustainability. The imperfections in the materials become an integral part of the prints, offering a reflection on art and the environment.
“Florilegio” invites reflection on the value of slowness and the harmony between our existence and that of nature.
See you at TYPA!

The exhibition is open from 27.09.-13.010.2024, Wed-Sun 12-6pm. Visiting the exhibition is free.
