ELEKTRITEATRI OUTDOOR CINEMA // "Singing in the Rain"
On July 4, 1972, it was rainy in Metsküla, Saaremaa, Estonia. More than usual, in fact. The floodgates of heaven seemed to have opened because the measured 24-hour precipitation amounted to 148 mm, making it the rainiest day in Estonian history. To commemorate this somewhat coincidental yet record-breaking event, we will screen, precisely 51 years later, one of the most famous musical comedies of all time, "Singing in the Rain," at the Aparaaditehas Outdoor Cinema. Hopefully, this time you can leave your rubber boots and raincoats at home.
Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly) and Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen) are the most famous couple of the silent film era, both on-screen and in real life, if we believe the tabloids. Their success could have lasted forever if it weren't for the rapidly advancing talkies. When the film company hastily begins producing sound films, the situation becomes complicated because both Lina's dreadful voice and Don's infatuation with his co-star Kathy (Debbie Reynolds) are revealed. Kathy is hired to dub Lina's terrible voice.
The film will be screened in English with Estonian subtitles. Film duration: 1 hour 43 minutes. Tickets priced at €7 are available in advance at https://elektriteater.ee/filmid/lauldes-vihmas/ and at the venue before the screening.
