The 20th Gallery Night is packed with art, workshops and music

On 13 November, the Aparaaditehas quarter will once again come alive as an arts hub for one evening, as the 20th edition of Gallery Night takes place. From 6 pm to 11 pm, 12 exhibition spaces will be open to visitors, and the studios, workspaces and other premises of artists and designers based in the quarter will also open their doors. Throughout the evening, visitors can explore new exhibitions, take part in workshops, discover the quarter’s exciting activities and enjoy music and art events.

This year’s programme centres on photography, alongside which visitors can also view paintings. At the Redwall Gallery, Carolina Linnamägi’s exhibition ‘Stories We Still Remember’ and Kevin Loigu’s exhibition ‘Remember / Forget’ will open. At the HAAB Gallery, visitors can view Oliver Haan’s photography exhibition ‘Waiting for Its Time’, whilst at Puhvet, Kairo’s painting exhibition ‘Majamagus’ will open. Also taking part in the programme are Kogo, TYPA and several smaller exhibition spaces, offering the chance to discover art in unexpected settings.

Alongside the art, visitors can also get a glimpse into the day-to-day work and creative experiments of the Aparaaditehas tenants. In total, 20 local artists and organisations will be showcasing their work. The SÕÕR lab will host a library of biomaterials, whilst the Experimental Production space will introduce kymaics – the visualisation of sound and vibration. In the workshops, you can try your hand at decorating ceramics, learn how to reupholster a chair, or discover the Japanese kintsugi repair technique. The Deepdance Company’s participatory performance ‘BODY WAS HERE’ combines movement and visual art, bringing together the body, movement and experiential drawing.

The evening’s musical programme offers something for everyone, from those seeking light-hearted entertainment to fans of more experimental sound art. In the White Greenhouse, DJs from Heliremondi Katsetehas will kick off ‘Estonia’s Tiniest Disco’, where you can enjoy music in a cosy and relaxed atmosphere. At 10 pm, ‘Experimental Music Vol. 4’ begins at Eksperimentaaltootmine, featuring performances by non/oom and Alex Beowulf (aka Pärtel Vissak). Live techno on analogue synthesisers will add an electronic and experimental soundscape to the evening.

Visitors do not need to plan their entire itinerary themselves to explore the Aparaaditehas and its exhibitions. There are six different tours to choose from, including curator tours, sensory tours and an English-language guided tour, which help to reveal both the background to the exhibitions and the unique spaces of the neighbourhood. At the same time, you can also enjoy the evening at your own pace, moving from one gallery or studio to the next and stopping wherever something particularly catches your eye.

The 20th Gallery Night offers the chance to experience Aparaaditehas from a different perspective and to connect with art in an informal and relaxed setting. Entry to the event is free, but some workshops and individual events are subject to a fee and require pre-registration. Many studios are open until 9 pm; opening hours for exhibition spaces vary, and some of the music programme continues past 11 pm. It is worth checking the event programme for a detailed schedule and participation conditions before your visit.
