mad & wonderful

Mari-Liis Link is an artist based in Tartu whose work straddles the boundary between figurative and abstract art.

Her work centres on colour, form and the relationships between them. She is interested in how familiar motifs – be they human figures, animals, landscapes or everyday objects – can be simplified and reinterpreted to create new visual meanings.

Her background in graphic design has instilled in her work an interest in composition and visual simplification. In her paintings, however, she seeks a balance between deliberate composition and intuitive experimentation, leaving room for chance and unexpected discoveries.

Mari-Liis works primarily with acrylic paints, whilst also using charcoal, ink and collage. She is studying painting at the Pallas University of Applied Arts and works from her studio at the Aparaaditehas.
